A growing number of small business owners across South Yorkshire are being forced to spend thousands of pounds unnecessarily when it comes to buying or selling a company, by taking matters into their own hands.

In order to help would-be entrepreneurs navigate their way through the potential litigation and financial minefield, Atteys solicitors, one of the leading law firms in South Yorkshire has teamed up with Rotherham-based Chartered Accountants Allotts, to host a special seminar looking at the issues facing individuals considering buying or selling a business

Taking place on October 12th at Doncaster Rugby Club Buying and Selling a Business, is a free event that aims to equip those attending with the vital skills and knowledge to ensure that buying or selling a business is a smooth, successful process.

Focussing upon many of the dangers and pitfalls when it comes to business acquisitions and sales, speakers on the day will include some of South Yorkshire's most experienced professional advisors who will examine some of the common problems faced by business owners from potentially sensitive issues, such as how to comply with employment legislation to the financial and tax implications of buying or selling a business.

Help will also be on hand from representatives of the South Yorkshire Investment Fund to discuss potential loan and investment packages available within the region.

Adrian Hattrell, Senior Commercial Partner, Atteys said:

"On paper, buying or selling a business looks like an extremely straightforward process and in recent years we have seen a growing number of businesses opt for the 'gentleman's agreement' approach when it comes to buying and selling companies. This may seem like a simple and effective approach, however in many cases, the sale or purchase becomes unnecessarily confused, leading to additional unnecessary expenses, to put them right.

"We have teamed up with Allots to draw attention to this increasingly problematic area of business law, and wanted to help equip businessmen and women across the region with the vital information needed to make the process as pain free as possible."

Steven Watson, Principal Tax Manager, Allotts said:

"There is no doubt that buying or selling a business is an extremely stressful period for anyone involved. Gaining the right advice at the right time can help make the difference between making a transaction that brings tax advantages and one which only results in additional burdens. I'm delighted that we are working with Atteys to draw attention to this very important business issue that is all too often overlooked."

All businesses from Doncaster and the surrounding area are warmly invited to attend. To reserve your free place contact Tessa Stephens on 01709 828400.
