This interview with David Winspeare, one of our Junior Accountants, tells you a bit more about working for Allotts.
What does your job involve?
As a Trainee Accountant my work is varied and at times challenging. My time is generally split between being in the office preparing accounts for small limited companies, and being on clients premises assisting senior accountants in carrying out audits, usually at larger companies or charities. Our clients work in a wide range of different industries, making the work that I do, and the places I go, quite varied. What skills do you need to do your job?
The job involves many different aspects and therefore a variety of skills are required at different times. Being able to work with numbers obviously helps, as does a willingness to learn, especially when training for exams. There is also the need to be able to communicate with people effectively, particularly when working at clients.
This interview with Amanda Beatson, a payroll administrator, tells you a bit more about working at Allotts.
What does your job involve?
I process the payrolls for over 150 clients who vary in size from one to 150 employees. I also provide advice and guidance to clients. How did you get to where you are today?
I left school at 16 with good GCSE grades and started working at Allotts as an office junior. I was then promoted to work as a junior in the tax department. This helped to develop my understanding of self-assessment and PAYE. I then moved to the payroll department and have been fully trained in payroll by in house training and external courses. What skills do you need to do your job?
I need to have good communications skills to make sure that the relationship between Allotts and the client works well. Attention to detail and an ability to stick to deadlines are also important. There are also technical skills that I’ve needed to learn. I have recently gained my NVQ level 2 in Payroll.
