J D Welch FCA David Welch is the senior partner in the firm having
become a partner in 1970. He qualified in 1964 after being articled to a firm
in Doncaster. He has extensive experience in the affairs of family run businesses
of varying sizes and specialises in taxation and farming and agricultural enterprises.
Outside the practice he has been a Non-Executive Director of the Rotherham District
Hospital NHS Trust and has served many local charitable and non profit making
bodies. |
A E Grice BA FCA Cert PFS
Tony Grice is the firm's managing partner. He has
a strong interest in advising professional clients, mainly doctors, dentists,
pharmacists and solicitors. He is member of the Solicitors Special Interest Group
of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He is also a member
of AISMA, the Association of Independent Specialist Medical Accountants. Married,
with three children, he obtained an upper second degree in Modern History from
Durham University, and came to Allotts as a manager in 1976, becoming a partner
in 1978. He is former president of the Sheffield and District Society of Chartered
Accountants. |
J N Saunders BA FCA Jackie obtained a degree in Business Studies at
Sheffield University. She qualified with Ernst and Young in 1980 and joined Allotts
as a manager in 1987, becoming a partner in 1989. Until recently she was our Audit
Regulation partner with responsibility for quality control within the practice.
She has a wide portfolio of work with emphasis upon a significant portfolio of
corporate charitable clients, and public sector clients. She heads up the Business
Services Division for the practice and deals with all aspects of Trusts. |
N S Highfield FCA Neil was born in Sheffield in 1963 and was educated
at Newfield Comprehensive School and Sheffield Polytechnic. He trained with the
Sheffield Office of an international firm of Chartered Accountants. While completing
his training Neil worked on a wide variety of clients from corner shops and sub-contractors
to PLCs throughout the North of England. Since qualifying in 1986 Neil has been
a partners' assistant at Wheaters and Manager at a small firm in Sheffield. Neil
has gained experience in computerised accounting systems, preparation of business
plans including financial forecasts, and personal and business taxation. Neil
rejoined Wheaters as a partner in 1994 and moved to Allotts when the two firms
merged in 2003. In his spare time he enjoys golf, football and skiing. |
S G Pepper FCA Steve trained and qualified with Allotts in 1982 and
became a partner in 1991. Steve is Chairman of the Doncaster Group of the Sheffield
and District Society of Chartered Accountants and is the partner responsible for
the Corporate Services Division and Audit Regulation. He has experience in construction
and related trades, medical practices, motor trade, engineering and road and passenger
transport. | Paul A Cooper BA FCA
Paul was born in 1950 and educated at Abbeydale Boys' Grammar School in Sheffield and the University of Sheffield. He trained with a large local firm of Chartered Accountants and in 1973 joined an international firm in East Anglia where he obtained experience of larger audits. Paul then returned to South Yorkshire to join the head office of a prominent steel-making group. Paul joined Wheaters in 1978 becoming a partner in 1980. He joined Allotts when the two firms merged in 2003. He is married with two children and lives in Rotherham within walking distance of the office. |
Steven Watson BA ACA CTA- Principal Tax Manager
Steve has previously worked with Deloittes and PKF. He has a wide range of knowledge in a variety of areas but his particular specialisms are in tax planning and mitigation for business clients ranging from small and medium sized enterprises to multinational groups. He advises particularly on business start-ups, company restructuring and the acquisition and preservation of various forms of tax relief. |
Kirstie Williamson BA ATT - Senior Tax Manager, Wealth Management
Kirstie has previously worked at PWC and Ernst & Young both in their UK and US offices. Kirstie offers advice to clients on inheritance tax and estate planning with a primary focus on retaining wealth within the family including the use of trusts and tax efficient wills. Kirstie also specialises in overseas tax matters particularly in respect of emigration and the purchase of property overseas. |
Maurice Willis AIIT - Director of VAT Services
Maurice has over 25 years experience of UK and international indirect taxation. He started out as a VAT inspector with Customs & Excise and has since worked for Mazaars Neville Russell and PKF. He is an Associate of the Institute of Indirect Taxation and a member of the VAT Practitioners Group, a member of the Chamber of Commerce Export Group and a past chairman of the York Federation of Small Businesses. He is also a technical contributor for the Gee VAT Factbook. He advises a wide range of clients including charities, financial institutions, exporters and importers as well as growing businesses.
As an ex VAT inspector he understands how to negotiate with Customs over investigations and VAT penalties. He has also been involved with several fraud cases as an expert witness. | Tessa Stephens BA MCIM- Marketing Manager
Tessa was born in Surrey in 1974. She studied Russian and German at the University of Leeds and then lived in Germany for two years. Before joining Allotts she worked for Reed Accountancy, Barclaycard and Capital One.

Ian Reddish MAAT- IT Manager
Ian was born in Chesterfield in 1970. He worked as a management accountant for Llanrad group, Chatsworth Computers and Post Office Business Systems before joining Allotts in 2002. Ian works with Allotts’ clients to help them improve their accounting systems through providing hardware, software, installation, training and support. He is a Microsoft Certified Professional and Microsoft Small Business Specialist, Sage Line 50 and Payroll Specialist, and a QuickBooks Professional Advisor. |
Lisa Empson - Prinicipal Manager - Business Services
Lisa studied Accounting at Loughborough University and joined Allotts after graduating in 1995. She qualified as an accountant while working in our Corporate Services Division and has been managing the Business Services Division since January 2005. She works with a wide range of clients but has particular interests in family businesses and the medical and farming sectors. Lisa helps businesses of all sizes to manage their finances efficiently and effectively. |
Robert Watson - MPhil Chartered FCIPD - HR Manager
Robert is a professionally qualified HR Development specialist with extensive experience in Training and Development and human resource consultancy. He has delivered both standard training events and consultancy services at all organisational levels across the HR, management and organisational spectrum. He is an expert in Performance Management, with experience in the design and implementation of systems at an organisational level. His experience has been gained over a number of years working at Ranmoor Hall, a management development centre in Sheffield where he was a key player in the research and development of learning solutions for the DfES. Robert was the HR and Development Manager for STL, a large independent work-based learning provider based in Sheffield, and was then a self-employed Organisation and Management Development Consultant before joining Allotts in June 2006. |
Simon Lamb BSc, MSc, CEng, Chartered Marketer
Simon Lamb has an extensive background in senior management in small to medium sized engineering companies both within the UK and in Europe. Qualified (with a blue chip background) in engineering & sales and marketing, Simon is a well rounded professional skilled in turnarounds, performance improvement and corporate finance. Senior positions held include chairman, managing director, sales & marketing director and manufacturing director. Simon has worked as a management consultant since 2001 and has hands on experience of problem solving, strategy development, management of change, restructuring and closures, earnings improvement and management development. Simon is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Marketing and of the Institute of Directors and both a Chartered Marketer and Chartered Engineer. Simon is a yacht master and loves to sail at every opportunity. |
Ron Blagden - Principal Manager - Corporate Services Ron read Economics
at Cambridge and trained and qualifed at Grant Thornton. He then worked in industry
for 3 years before joining Allotts in 1986. He became a manager in 1989 and has
been responsible for our Corporate Services Division since 2002. Ron has particular
interests in financial services and groups of companies. | |
